  Dr. Ece Bayat was born in 1979, in Ankara, Turkey. After graduating from Ankara Anatolian High School in 1997, she received her bachelor degree in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey in 2002. She earned a Master of Science degree in civil engineering in 2004, at Northeastern University, Boston MA. She received her Ph.D. degree also at Northeastern University, specialized in Geotechnical and Earthquake Engineering, in August 2009. Currently, she holds Assistant Professor position at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in the Faculty of Civil Engineering where she was recruited in April, 2010.  In January 2011, Dr. Ece Bayat has been appointed as ITU Assistant to the President for Strategic Planning and Development. She has also been appointed as the ITU-University of Illinois Urbana Champaign BS+MS Cooperate Program Coordinator in February 2011.  Her research focus is on liquefaction of sands during earthquakes, liquefaction mitigation, shaking table testing of soils, non-destructive testing of large soil samples, and seismic evaluation of artifacts. She has served as a research and teaching assistant for several years at Northeastern University and has taught civil engineering classes at undergraduate level. She has given speeches in various outreach activities to attract middle and high school students' and minorities' interest in science and engineering. She is a member of Society of Women in Engineering (SWE) of United States and also gave presentations in SWE regional conferences. Dr. Ece Bayat received college of engineering outstanding teaching award in 2004 and she is a member of Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
